I am aware of many companies who don’t see the value in investing in SEO. They are spending a great deal of money on traditional marketing and internet banner advertising, but have yet seen enough convincing evidence to get started with an SEO campaign. In this article, we look at a few of the key reasons why you are justified in spending money on SEO, and if you don’t your competition will.

Where do customers look for information on a business?

  • Before the phone book, making a phone call or stopping in, 76% of consumers look to the website for company, product or sales information.

Where do customers look for your website?

  • Google processes 88 billion searches per month, making it the #1 website in the world

Think about your own personal buying behavior. When you need to make a larger purchase or do research before making a purchase, where do first look for additional information? t should be clear that the Internet plays an increasingly bigger role in connecting with potential clients online. With Google being the epicenter of the web & search, let’s talk about where on Google we should appear for maximum ROI.

What Google Heat Maps Tell Us

The above graphic is an eye heat map of a Google search. This is an illustration of where they visitor’s eye travels while on a typical google search with the red representing areas of heavy traffic and blue with low traffic.

You can see that the majority of the eye movement is focused on the top four results on the page. This triangle-like pattern that is created is called the “Golden Triangle” by SEO’s. You can also see the visibility given to Adword sponsored results on the right hand column.

The below chart illustrates the metrics on google search page placement and the distribution of clicks on a typical google search page. This again shows that the lower the results on the page, the less clicks are captured.

It’s clear that based on the eye heat map and the scroll/click chart, the top 3-4 organic search results is the prime place for your company to be in order to be noticed, found & clicked on.

The next question you should have is how do I get my business to the top 3 search results on Google so I can increase visibility, website traffic and leads? I have one simple answer, SEO. It's very, very rare that your company will be in the top 3 without actively working on an SEO campaign.

There are over 200 items in the new Panda Google Algorithm update that Google takes into account when ranking the websites. Because of the complexity of the ranking algorithm, SEO is literally a science that needs to constantly be updates, changed and monitored. Google is now making changes & tweaks to their algorithm on a daily or weekly basis. So it’s important to not only know how to build SEO with the current Google algorithm, but also be up to date on any changes that come up.

With everything you have going on with your business in a typical day, it’s nearly impossible to stay on top of everything and build your google SEO. This is where an agency comes into play. Many businesses simply find a knowledgeable SEO Company who can manage their SEO efforts. Please refer to my blog: Things to consider when selecting a Milwaukee SEO company.
